I had the opportunity to visit Dreams Macao Beach in November 2023 and wanted to share some background and my honest review of the resort.

Dreams Macao Beach is located in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, about 40 minutes from the airport.

The resort opened in March 2020, so it’s a new resort with many modern amenities located on a luscious tropical property.

Summary

Overall, I was very impressed with my trip to Dreams Macao Beach resort.

Our team plans nearly 100 destination weddings per year, and I’m excited to share more of Dreams Macao with future couples.

The rooms were spacious and clean, the property was beautiful, the staff was friendly, and the white sand beach was perfect for unwinding.

I found some of the food to be inconsistent, but it was outweighed by the stunning wedding venue choices and luxury feel that adults will love and ample amenities to keep the kids entertained.

My recommendation: The Preferred Club is worth it at Dreams Macao beach resort. The additional amenities, upgraded categories, private pool and beach area all make the extra cost worthwhile to me.

Read on for my full review of Dreams Macao as a fantastic family-friendly all-inclusive destination wedding resort in Punta Cana.

Resort background

After my 40-minute drive from the Punta Cana International Airport, friendly, smiling staff greeted me at Dreams Macao Beach.

I was immediately taken aback by the lobby’s high ceiling and the view straight to the beach.

After checking in, I did a quick tour of the resort to get a lay of the land.

Here’s some basic information about Dreams Macao Beach.

All Dreams Resorts offers the Unlimited-Luxury all-inclusive experience, making Dreams a terrific family-friendly option.

Unlimited Luxury includes gourmet restaurants, top-shelf drinks, and endless day and nighttime activities for the whole family.

Restaurants and Bars

Dreams Macao Beach resort offers plenty of bars and restaurants. One of my favorite things to do during my trip was grab an afternoon snack at Macao Bites Food Truck, tucked away near the water park.

I was also impressed with the buffet – it offered global cuisines and plenty of healthy options, including two egg stations at breakfast and a nicely sized salad bar at lunch.

At night, we hung out around the Sugar Reef bar, conveniently located near most of the restaurants and a great central meeting place before dinner.

Here’s a rundown of all the restaurants and bars available at Dreams Macao:

  • Barefoot Grill
  • Barracuda
  • Bordeaux
  • Coco Cafe
  • Desires
  • El Patio
  • Himitsu
  • Macao Bites Food Truck
  • Manatees
  • Oceana
  • Portofino
  • Rendezvous
  • Seaside Grill
  • Showtime
  • Sugar Reef
  • Preferred Club Bar

Accommodations at Dreams Macao Beach

I was impressed with the Preferred Club junior suite that I stayed in during my trip to Dreams Macao Beach.

When I arrived, the suite was clean, with a complimentary beach bag and an expansive view of the resort.

The bathrooms are spacious, with a shower with two rain showers and a giant soaking tub.

I’m not a huge fan of soaking tubs in the same confined area as the shower, but I thought the area was large enough that it didn’t feel restricted.

The resort offers 500 guest rooms.

All rooms offer private, and a furnished balcony or terrace, 24-hour room service, 24-hour concierge service, a mini-bar refreshed daily, and free wifi.

Room categories include:

  • Jr suite tropical view
  • J suite pool view
  • Jr suite partial ocean view
  • Jr suite ocean view
  • Preferred Club jr suite tropical view
  • Preferred Club jr suite partial ocean view
  • Preferred Club jr suite ocean view
  • Preferred Club jr suite swim-out
  • Preferred Club master suite ocean view
  • Preferred Club master suite oceanfront
  • Preferred Club master suite rooftop
  • Preferred Club master suite swim out oceanfront
  • Preferred club presidential suite rooftop oceanfront
  • Preferred Club presidential suite swims out oceanfront
  • Preferred Club two-bedroom villa with pool

For destination weddings, I love that there are ample room options for both guests and the wedding couple.

Often, couples may be worried if there’s only one or two master suites or presidential suites at a resort, but it’s nice that Dreams Macao offers multiple upgraded options that would be perfect for the wedding couple.

Additionally, I’m obsessed with the Preferred Club two-bedroom villa with a pool.

The 1,808 sq. ft. villa has one king-size bed and two queen-size beds, accommodating eight guests (max six adults).

The villa is located in the back of the resort, directly next to the lazy river.

Therefore, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for adults-only (i.e., bridal party), but it’s the perfect setup for a family.

Preferred Club at Dreams Macao

You’ll notice that more than half of the room categories at Dreams Macao are Preferred Club level.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, Dreams Resorts, or Secrets Resorts, the Preferred Club offers an upgraded experience for guests.

You can expect:

  • Personalized check-in and check-out
  • Daily continental breakfast service
  • Afternoon hot and cold hors d’oeuvres
  • Premium liquors
  • Access to Preferred Club lounge and bar
  • Preferred Club beach and pool areas

My favorite parts of staying in the Preferred Club were the private area on the beach and the adults-only pool.

Both felt like a more luxurious experience, perfect for adults who may be staying at a destination wedding but don’t want to be surrounded by kids.

Wedding venues

One of the reasons I was most excited about visiting and staying at Dreams Macao is due to how many wedding venues they offer.

I was excited that during my 3-day stay, I could see a few weddings take place.

Wedding venues at Dreams Macao Beach include:

  • Beach Gazebo
  • Seaside Sky Terrace
  • Himitsu Garden Terrace
  • Ballroom Beach Area Left Side
  • Beach Area Right Side
  • Macao Preferred Beach
  • Macao Plaza
  • Seaside Grill Garden Terrace
  • Sugar Reef Terrace

I personally love the seaside Sky terrace with expansive views of the beach, and it can accommodate events of up to 100 guests.

I saw a wedding at the Himitsu Garden terrace, accommodating 180 people for a ceremony, 250 for a cocktail, and 160 for a reception.

Overall, I was quite impressed with the variety of wedding venue options at Dreams Macao Beach.

Wedding packages

Part of why our team at Vacationeeze loves Dreams Resorts is because of the comprehensive wedding packages offered.

If you’ve watched any of our videos or read our other blog posts and reviews, you know we love the Beyond Memorable wedding package even after changes for 2024/25.

Here’s a rundown of the wedding packages at Dreams Macaco Beach:

  • Elope in luxury
  • Wedding in paradise
  • Dreams of love
  • Dreams ultimate
  • Beyond Memorable
  • Shaadi
  • Dulha and Dulhan

If you’re considering hosting an Indian wedding in Punta Cana, Dreams Macao Beach may be a perfect resort due to the combination of the wedding venues, packages, room offerings, and wedding planning team.

From seeing multiple events at Dreams Macao Beach, I sense that whether you’re planning a wedding with 50 or 300 guests, their team is well-equipped to turn any event into reality.

The beach at Dreams Macao Beach Resort is stunning.

Mexico and the Dominican Republic are stunningly beautiful beach locales for a destination wedding.

You’ll have ample wedding venues and packages in both destinations and notice some familiar names, like Dreams Resorts, Secrets Resorts, Royalton, and more.

About 80% of the destination weddings we plan are in Mexico. We find that there are typically more resort options available, and the food and service are sometimes a bit better.

Alternatively, the beaches in the Dominican Republic are often a bit nicer, and seaweed is not as much of an issue as it can be in Cancun or Riviera Maya
